RUSD Parent Handbooks for 2017-2018

We will post the RUSD Parent Handbook as soon as it is updated.  It will be in a digital format on our website... We expect to have this linked on our web site by the end of August.

Parent Weekly Student Work Check for Classes through AERIES Gradebook
All parents will have access to check ongoing work of their student in each class through AERIES Gradebook log on.  We will be training parents on this in August.  Parents may also check student attendance through AERIES.

Student Planner - Digital Format
Our 2017-2018 Central Student Planner  will be linked on our website before school starts on August 25th for 7th graders.  Central is a one to one device school.  Our textbooks, educational APs, links to educationally safe websites and software are imaged on student devices.

Parent & Student Device Training- Chromebooks
Incoming 7th grade families will be trained on the proper use of student devices and about Internet safety/being a good digital citizen. Sign ups for these mini-workshops will be posted on our Home page as soon as scheduled for August. Flyers will also be posted on Peachjar to all active parent emails.  8th grade returning parents are invited to attend if they require a refresher in the use of the Chromebook or how to access our AERIES Gradebook system.

Personal Items
Students are encouraged to leave valuable items and large amounts of money at home. Backpacks MUST be locked in PE lockers during PE - no exceptions.

Cell Phones

Cell Phones must be put away in backpack during classes unless a teacher allows usage for a project or lesson.  

Cell Phones are FORBIDDEN in PE Locker Rooms, restrooms or out at PE class.  

Cell phones MUST be secured in backpacks in lockers during PE. Saturday school is the base consequence for breaking this rule.

Students may NOT allow other students to borrow their cell phones at any time.

Cell phones are expensive and the complete responsibility of the student if brought to school.

**Central or RUSD is not responsible for loss or theft of any personal items by students.

Items Students Will Need
1. Charged Chromebook everyday
2. A notebook for organizing work 
2. Paper, pencils, and pens
3. PE Uniform (shorts, shirt and athletic shoes) each Monday
4. Sack lunch, lunch money or a cafeteria lunch number (Student ID)
5. A backpack to hold personal items and device
6. Calculator (Highly recommended)

PE Clothes
Please check the Summer Booklet mailed home for costs.  PE clothes may be purchased during PE classes the first week of school or throughout the year from each locker-room. Appropriate clothes from home may be substituted - please talk to PE teacher. 

The cafeteria is under construction this year. Meals are served in the area in front of the gym and tables are available at the lunch pavilion. We will post the most current lunch and breakfast costs as soon as provided by Nutrition Services.

FREE & REDUCED Family Meal Applications for 2017-2018 
Families must submit ONE application for all children each school year.  Please click on the link to the RUSD website to fill out the application online.  Central will have a few paper applications available in our office in August.  We can also assist any family in applying online.

Snack Break
A ten-minute snack period is provided for students each day between 2nd and 3rd periods except on Planning Days. Students may bring healthy snacks from home to eaten during snack break. Snacks are also available for purchase in the cafeteria.

Each year the Parent, Teacher, Student Association provides valuable resources, service, and support to Central Middle School. Our students and teachers benefit from our numerous parent sponsored or parent-assisted school activities throughout the year. We encourage each family to become members of the PTSA. Central sincerely appreciates the parents contribution to our school through the PTSA.

School Site Council-SSC & 
English Learners Advisory Committee-ELAC
The School Site Council is a group of students, parents, and staff members that has the responsibility of monitoring the writing, implementation and evaluation of the School Plan. Central Middle Schools new School Plan was written and approved with the support of the SSC and ELAC. The SSC helps decide how School Improvement funds are used. All stakeholders in the Central community are invited to attend these monthly meetings.

All schools including Central MS have new security measures to protect our students, staff and visitors.  While we welcome the community at Central, all visitors must have a prior appointment, require information, or have a scheduled meeting when entering our office. All visitors will be required to sign in, have appropriate identification and wear a name tag or badge while visiting.  

*Parents or guardians wishing to visit their student's classroom must make an appointment at least 24 hours in advance with our office personnel.  Access will be at the discretion of administration.
Bike & Skateboard Transportation

Bike riders or skateboarders may ONLY enter campus through the MPH GATE .  Racks to secure rides are just inside the GATE.

Each bike and skateboard should be individually locked in the racks with a sturdy lock. Our office has a few loaner locks for emergencies.

We have re-located our bike and skateboard racks just outside our office for increased surveillance and security.  However, Central Middle School is under no financial obligation for damaged or stolen bikes or skateboards. The Riverside Police Department recommends that parents keep records of serial numbers of students bicycles at home, in case of loss or theft.

Bikes or skateboards MAY NOT be ridden anywhere on campus.  Students must carry skateboards and walk bikes as the enter our grounds.  California law requires that students wear helmets when riding skateboards or bikes at any time.

Vehicle Transportation - Parent Drop Off

Parents may drop off students at the Terracina Gate on the North side of campus or in our Central parking lot off Ramona Ave ONLY in front of the Multi Purpose Hall for safety reasons.

Walking Transportation

Students walking to school are encouraged to always walk with friends or in groups.  Student walking route should be planned out ahead with parents and students should not deviate from that path for safety reasons.  

Waling students may enter campus through the Terracina Gate or the MPH Gate at top of parking lot.  The office entrance is for public and parent access, and students are asked to enter through the above supervised GATES at Terracina and the MPH for security reasons. 

Honor Roll
Students who achieve a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are placed on the Honor Roll. They are recognized on `A` Student Night.

Perfect Attendance
Students with perfect attendance are recognized at the end of each trimester and at Awards Night in June. One and two year perfect attendance awards are awarded to students on Awards Night. Perfect attendance information is posted prior to awards ceremonies and should be checked by students. Parents are encouraged to call the attendance office, prior to awards events, if attendance discrepancies exist.

Presidential Academic Fitness Award
This special recognition is earned by students maintaining a B+ (3.5 grade point) average for his or her middle school years plus scores on standardized testing the 90th percentile or above.

Principals Award
The Principal accepts nominations from eighth grade teachers for students who made a significant contribution to the Central Middle School community during their time at Central. The Principal presents awards to the chosen students at the end of the year Awards Ceremony.

In the event of a disaster or emergency, such as a fire, earthquake, severe wind storms, bomb threat, active shooter or community unrest, etc., procedures will be followed as described in the schools comprehensive School Safety Plan approved by School Site Council and available for community review in our office at any time. This plan is updated annually to align with new safety needs and the law.

Students will be held at the school as necessary in order to keep them safe. Students will be released to parents or family members who are listed on the students emergency card. Students must be checked out through the office or through the emergency command center if one has been designated outside of the office. A picture I.D. is always required when picking up a student from school. Students are instructed to listen and follow directions carefully during an emergency in order to implement the appropriate response to the emergency situation. disaster and emergency procedures are provided to all students when they enroll at Central.
