                                 CENTRAL MIDDLE SCHOOL

                            Welcome to 2nd Quarter - November 2017
We have finished our first quarter at Central and on our way to the Holidays.  Students and staff are all working hard to improve learning by all.  In fact our Theme for this year is... Embrace Continuous Learning.  We believe that all (staff and students) are teachers and learners at Central.  Our intention is to prepare all our students to be successful i  n high school, careers and college.  We are doing this through rigorous, challenging instruction in the classroom and by exposing our students to a variety of field trip experiences and involving them in our myriad of school activities.

We have already completed our first middle school sports where our teams competed in Volleyball and Cross Country Running.  Currently students are trying out for Basketball.  After that will be Soccer and Track competitions in the Spring.  All our students are involved in many clubs, dances, activities and groups such as ASB, Theater, Colorguard or Cheer.  Students have participated in field trips to music and animation classes at RCC, tours of UCR, the Discovery Cube in Santa Ana, interacting with Poly High School audiovisual classes, touring the Fender Guitar Manufacturing Museum and the LA County Museum of Art.  And in the Arts over 200 of our students attending the amazing production of the Adam's Family at RCC.  We have many other field trips and competitions planned to assist our students in broadening the richness of their vocabulary (writing, speaking) and their skills at presenting themselves within the community.  Additionally our counselors are providing students critical lessons in developing positive social skills, internet protocols, and career awareness. - Of course we are providing students content in all curricular areas but with the added value of developing critical skills in real life problem analysis and application utilizing our one to one technology.  It is a definitely a positive start to a great year!

Principal Welcome to 2017-2018 School Year

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!  Our first two weeks of school have been very smooth thanks to our students, parents and staff.  I want to thank Cub students and parents for your support of our upgraded security procedures.  All visitors are required to sign in at the office. Our entrance gates for students are at Terracina and off Ramona Gates opening at 7:30 am each morning when we have campus supervision.  We are very proud of our students who have been walking their bikes and carrying their skateboards onto campus through the MPH gate each morning.  Additionally, parents have been very gracious in dropping off their students in front of the MPH which allows other cars to not back up in the parking lot or out onto Ramona Drive.  It really does take only a minute to drop off of students when all parents pull up as far as they can in front of the MPH before allowing students to get out of the vehicle.

                  BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
                                           Tuesday - September 19th

                             5:45 pm -  Central Multi-Purpose Hall

We are all very excited to share the great things happening at Central during Back to School Night.  There will be a short Parent Teacher Association (PTSA) Meeting at 5:45 pm and voting for your parent representatives to School Site Council.  There will be tables of resource information around the room.  You will be able to sign up for our English Language Advisory Committee, the Free/Reduced Meal program, PTSA and submit an application for our after school program Prime Time.   After that short overview about Central, parents are welcome to follow their student’s schedule as we ring the bells for you to attend each class.  Your student will be bringing home a copy of his/her class schedule for you to follow that night.  It is a great chance to meet all teachers and find out what your student will be learning this year.  There will be food for sale as well as snow cones from the Kona Ice Truck. A flyer with additional details will be sent out next week through Peachjar.

Free/Reduced Meal Program -To APPLY click the link next to the sandwich on our website
central.riversideunified.org– Maybe you qualify? Fill out and submit an application today.  Remember grandparents and other aunts/uncles or cousins living in your household count.  You only have to submit ONE application for all the students in your house- not individual applications.

To discourage any illegal substances on campus, RUSD contracts with a Detection Canine Program.  The dogs are gentle but trained in the detection of drugs on clothing or backpacks. Additionally, we have security video cameras in many areas of campus to assist us in keeping everyone safe and to discourage after school hours theft.  If you have questions about these security measures please contact our office.

Often during the school year, we need to call a parent or family member of a student.  That student could be sick, have had an accident or we just need to communicate with families.  PLEASE fill out and have your student return the Contact Paperwork (sent home last week) to his/her 1st period class.  If your student has lost the paperwork, we can provide more copies.  It is essential that we have several numbers and people to contact for your student’s well-being while at Central.
